Rich and Famous arose out of my PhD research and a compositional experiment to use musical structures from Carnatic music within a contemporary jazz setting. Rhythmic structures and the ordering of materials within the album reflect a Carnatic sensibility - beginning with a Varnum, building to a climactic substantial work (Floodlines) that culminated in a percussion solo (Rich and Famous) and afterward a number of lighter works.
